The Transport Commissioner has assured to take up necessary actions and provide police support to Highway Truck Owners Welfare Organisation (HITOWO) to check and monitor overloaded trucks disobeying the Government order.
Speaking to media persons at the association's office at Imphal, HITOWO information and public relations secretary Brojendro Konthoujam said that a three member team of HITOWO, led by its president, met Transport Commissioner M Lakshmikumar as well as Joint Director BK Sharma.
During the meeting, the association put forward the disadvantages posed by overloaded trucks and vehicles along National Highway 37 and National Highway 2 .
Brojendro added that the association brought up the issue and after they heard the grievances, the Commissioner and the Joint Director assured the association that they would take up necessary steps to detain overloaded trucks along the highways, he said and added that he has firm belief the Government would turn its assurance into actions.
