Apart from planting tree saplings, waste/dust bins were also installed at the premises of the Department of Physical, Medicine and Rehabilitation, RIMS, Shemrock Woodstock, Chingmeirong and Yaibilen Children Home, Keibi by the volunteers/members of Lions Club of Imphal Valley today.
The initiative was part of the goodwill gesture taken up by the organization for the welfare of the State for the last many years.
Speaking to media persons on the sideline of the programme, N Romi, vice president, Lions Club of Imphal Valley informed that the initiative is a part of the effort to protect and preserve the environment, taking into account the ever increasing environmental degradation in the State.
He stated that the activities are also a part of the observation of World Environment Day of June 5 adding that such observation is usually held in a month long, week long or fortnight long process across the world.
Conveying that Lions Clubs have given thrust to five main aspects, the vice president highlighted that health care, environmental protection, education, engagement of youth in goodwill mission and uplifting the weaker sections of the society by providing possible assistance are some of the main initiatives taken up under the said process.
He assured that at least one significant task for the welfare of the society will be executed each month in Manipur and added that spectacles along with power lens will be provided free of costs to children who cannot afford such aid, in the near future.
