Imphal, April 18 2013:
Condemning the act of arson committed by unidentified armed miscreants on two trucks along Imphal-Jiri road and the subsequent killing of a driver and causing injury to another as most unfortunate, Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam, who is also the Home Minister of the State, has assured that the matter would be investigated and see whether there is any loophole in the security arrangement being made by the State Government.
Talking to media persons in his office chamber at State Secretariat here today, Gaikhangam admitted that incident took place along Imphal-Jiri road when the two trucks stayed behind owing to break down while the rest of the Imphal-bound trucks were being escorted from Jiribam.
Whether the two trucks deliberately stayed back or not would be investigated, he said.
Gaikhangam informed that the government is trying to rescue another driver and a handyman who fled towards Noney side from the incident.
There is no clue as to which UG group was involved in the incident, but investigation is on.
The Deputy Chief Minister further stated that intensive investigations would be carried out in connection with the incident to ascertain whether there was any lack of responsibility on the part of CRPF and BSF personnel, who are on ROP along the stretch of the road, as envisaged by the general public.
Replying to a query, the Deputy Chief Minister observed that the apprehension of the general public that central para-military forces deployed along the National Highways are more concerned about the safety of their own camps and remain silent over any untoward incident happening along the route, seems to be true to a certain extent.
The matter would be brought up to the notice of the Centre, he further assured.
