Imphal, April 18 2013:
All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU) has expressed strong resentment against what the students' body termed as non-compassionate attitude of both the RIMS and JNIMS authorities to its formal intimation for assistance in conducting blood donation programmes.
According to AMSU president Thiyam Naresh blood donation programmes were planned in connection with the 33rd Realisation Day observed yesterday but the same had to be shelved as both RIMS and JNIMS authorities declined to provide blood bank personnel to supervise the programme.
While RIMS authorities cited ongoing examination for its inability to depute any of its staff for the said purpose JNIMS claimed that its blood bank stock was 'full' thereby further stocking not necessary, informed Naresh, who termed the RIMS version as ridiculous with the contention that all the RIMS personnel could not have been engaged to conduct the examination.
Reacting to the JNIMS claim of sufficient blood stock, the AMSU president conveyed that JNIMS authorities should ensure that there is no complaint from patients/patients' party about inconveniences or hardships in getting blood.
Expressing that frequent publicity campaigns for the general public to donate blood has been rendered irrelevant by the nonchalant attitude of both RIMS and JNIMS authorities, he also wondered whether there is any specification on the number of donors for blood donation programmes.
Regarding entertainment programmes allegedly conducted at some places inspite of AMSU's appeal to abstain from such activity yesterday, Naresh asked entertainment programme organisers for a thorough explanation on the said issue within three days.
He, however, conveyed gratitude to all concerned for the successful conduct of the Realisation Day, an event to commemorate anti-foreigner drive launched by the students' body in the early 1980s.
