AR units recover drugs, betel nuts, gold

Assam Rifles troops of IGAR (South) reportedly busted a major narcotics trafficking racket in Tengnoupal on Tuesday.
According to PRO IGAR (S), troops of Assam Rifles and Territorial Army, based on intelligence inputs, launched an operation on Monday near the Indo-Myanmar border to intercept a consignment of drugs being brought from across the border.
Around midnight, the troops intercepted two modified Shaktiman vehicles plying in the area and recovered nearly 8000 kg of opium seeds worth over Rs 47.50 crore and betel nuts worth Rs 7.20 lakh.
Two smugglers who were driving the vehicles were also apprehended.
The smugglers and the contraband items were handed over to the Police authorities for further legal action, the PRO said in a release.
In another release, the PRO informed that Tengnoupal Battalion foiled a cross-border smuggling of gold near Tengnoupal on June 5 .
The Assam Rifles troops launched an operation and intercepted a foreign origin two wheeler (Kenbo bike) traversing through a jungle trail.
On being challenged to stop, the two riders abandoned the two-wheeler vehicle and tried to escape.
However, the troops chased the suspects and apprehended one of them.
On checking 8.79 kg of gold worth Rs 4.30 crore was recovered from the smuggler, who along with the seized gold was handed over to Tengnoupal Police Station for further legal action.
