One accused in hit and run case remanded

Imphal, June 08 2021:
Chief Judicial Magistrate Imphal West today remanded 43-year-old Laitangthem Upendro of Porompat Thawan Thaba Leikai to 3 days police custody in connection with a hit and run case.
The accused Laitangthem Upendro, s/o (L) Nabachandra of Porompat Thawan Thaba Leikai was produced before the Court through video conferencing along with a prayer for police custody remand.
The IO of the case through APP submitted that information was received from SP control room last night that one four-wheeler vehicle coming from Naoremthong towards Tera Loukrakpam Leikai fled after hitting a Bolero Jeep parked near RN Health Centre and a pedestrian there at around 6.40 pm.
While fleeing, the vehicle also hit another vehicle parked at Tera Bazar crossing.
Saying that the pedestrian was declared brought dead at RIMS, the IO continued that the driver responsible was identified as Laitangthem Upendro.
He was arrested from Tera Bazar by Police personnel posted there.
He was driving without a license.
On medical examination, the accused was found driving after consuming alcohol.
The deceased, on the other hand, was identified as Chungkham Ibetombi.
On interrogation, the accused revealed that he is a staff for APPIBOM.
He also admitted that he was driving after consuming alcohol with a friend at Takyel ground.
The Court on perusal of case record and after hearing the submission of the IO remanded the accused to three days police custody
till June 10 .
