Bail plea rejected

Chief Judicial Magistrate Imphal East on Tuesday rejected the bail application of Kangujam Karnajit and allowed Porompat police station to formally arrest him on chrage of fraudulent activities in the name of the International Youth Committee.
Kangujam Karnajit, the self-acclaimed chairman of International Youth Committee, was produced before the Court through video conferencing after the completion of his seven days police custody period along with a prayer for remanding him to judicial custody for smooth investigation of the case.
On the other hand, the defence counsel of Karnajit filed a remand objection along with the prayer for his release on bail.
The IO of the case through APP submitted that on 30 January, 2016, Soram Gayatri of Lalambung Makhong lodged a written complaint before Porompat police Station, stating that Karnajit, director of Global Youth Forum under UNESCO, sold her homestead land using forged documents.
During the investigation it was learnt that the land was sold by the accused in the presence of the then Sub Register IE/ SDC Headquarters Porompat Sub Division with the help of a lady who posed as the owner of the land, the IO added.
The accused had also admitted the charges levelled against him, the IO continued.
The Court on perusal of the case record and after hearing both the parties rejected the bail application and remanded Karnajit to judicial custody.
In the meantime, the IO of Porompat police station applied to formally arrest Kangujam Karnajit based on a complaint lodged by a Nepali student working on child rights and environmental issues for committing fraud, cheating and other related crime in the name of the International Youth Committee.
The Court on perusal of the prayer allowed the formal arrest of Karnajit for investigation of the case.
Karnajit is likely to be produced before the Court.
