Imphal, July 16 2021:
Given the alarming Covid situation in the State with over 1,000 cases detected in three consecutive days and the daily positivity rate remaining over 10 percent on average, the State Government has announced a 10-day total curfew with effect from July 18.It may be mentioned that curfew is still in place at 7 districts of Manipur-Imphal West, Imphal East, Bishnupur, Thoubal, Kakching, Churachandpur and Ukhrul while night curfew from 7 pm to 5 am was incorporated for the remaining districts in the previous order dated 9th July.
The fresh order signed by Chief Secretary Dr Rajesh Kumar, however, mentioned that 'this supersedes the order dated July 9, 2021' .
According to the new order, only essential activities/services related to vaccination, Covid testing, medical services (hospitals, clinic/pharmacies), water supply, power supply, police, telecom/internet service, air travel, agriculture/horticulture, garbage clearance, petrol pumps, LPG distributors and goods trucks will be allowed to operate during the period (July 18 to 27, 2021) .
A separate order relaxing print and electronic media from the purview of curfew was issued only later.
Essential and key departments of the Government will continue to function with minimal staff as considered by the Adminis- trative Secretary/Head with emphasis on e-office/work from home, read the order.
It urged the DCs and SPs to implement the order strictly.
Chief Minister N Biren Singh, in a Facebook post, stated that State forces along with CRPF personnel will be deployed for strict enforcement of the curfew.
District Magistrate of Imphal West Th Kirankumar, on the other hand, appealed to the people who want to perform marriage, funeral service, asti/leihun, shraddha/sorat/lanna thouram, etc to take written permission from him or district SP before carrying out any programme/function.
