Imphal, November 10 2015:
Manipur Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam on Tuesday said that electing representatives who were not aware of their own responsibilities will slow down the pace of development in the State.
The Deputy Chief Minister was speaking at the one-day political conference organised by Thongju Assembly Constituency 5/14 and 5/15 Polling Committee at Bashikhong Panthoibi market in connection with the election campaign of INC candidate Bijoy Koijam.
Speaking as the Chief Guest, Gaikhangam stated that people's representatives should make sacrifices for the public and they should be proud of helping the people.
"Electing representatives who are not aware of their responsibilities will only slow down the pace of development.
People should elect the right representatives who had credible political backgrounds and the will to perform public duties", he said.
Gaikhangam further stated that the bye-election to the Thongju A/C will be held as a result of the former MLA's disqualification, who again was trying to represent the assembly constituency.
Speaking at the conference, MP Dr T Meinya stated that among other issues, Naga Peace Accord issue has now haunted the people of Manipur since the contents of the agreement have been concealed by the Government of India.
"People need to remain alert as the outcome of the accord is still unknown", said Dr Meinya and called on all to protect the State's integrity.
Education Minister M Okendro, PHED Minister, Parliamentary Secretary M Prithiviraj, Amid Shah, MLA Loken, K Ranjit, Bijoy Koijam and others also attended the conference.
