An eighty-eight year old man who was the chief of Teijang village in Henglep sub-division during his hey days has reclaimed the title of village chief from his son to save his village and the legacy of his family, our correspondent reports.
Chunghao Haokip Thadou Kuki, 88 said the eldest of his 5 sons, Onkhongam was handed the charge of village chieftain after his retirement 10 years ago.
The 88 year-old now wishes to reclaim his position as the chief stating that he has the authority to repossess the title as he is still alive and the chieftainship was not transferred officially to his son.
Detailing the reason for his extreme step, Chunghao said his eldest son along with his family has moved to the town and has not looked back to his family at home or the village.
When Chunghao implements Government schemes in the village, the son draws the fund; when he rears fishes at his farm, the son claims ownership and threatens anyone from buying them without his knowledge, the former chief of Teijang alleged.
