Imphal, November 10 2015:
The road construction and repair works currently underway from Keishampat to Airport along Tiddim Road have posed a grave threat to public and safety of citizens due to absence of any palpable safety sign, flagger or precautionary barrier normally used while executing such works.
Residents nearby have complained that there they have been traumatized not only by the dust and dirt from the road blowing towards their homes but also the failure of the authorities to take up safety measures required while such repair and construction works are on.

"We have to face not only the air polluted by the dust from the construction sites but also the hazards of meeting with road mishaps as there were practically nothing to warn passersby of the ditches dug or the uneven patches along the road sides", said a resident.
The roads have been partially excavated creating uneven surface which were likely to cause unwanted accidents, said another motorists.
The sites also known as "con-zones" should be properly indicated with sign boards during process of construction so that the public are aware.
In other States, speed monitoring devices are also installed at the construction sites to track down the speed of the vehicles passing by.
For the convenience of the road users and drivers, flaggers like "Slow" or "Stop" banners or sign boards are used or barriers erected at the construction sites.
But no such system exists in the case of Manipur and the authorities have always defied such rules and regulations, said a resident.
Meanwhile, the road construction work from Sanjenthong to the southern gate of Kangla has caused excessive air pollution with dust.
Accidents are also likely to occur in the area as the passersby normally accelerate the vehicle speed so as to quickly cross the polluted area.
In some areas, stones and sands which had been dumped for the construction works are stored at the road sides occupying almost half of the road's width.
