Imphal, July 10 2011:
Alleging that a huge amount had been fraudulently collected as institutional fees from atleast 29 nursing students staying at a privately-run hostel, the agitated nursing students have threatened to spoil marriage of an instructor in case the collected amount is not handed back to them.
Speaking to some newspersons, some nursing students of National Institute of Nursing, Soibam Leikai disclosed that apart from ruining their careers by not facilitating appearance in relevant nursing examinations, Rs 19,050 had been incurred by each of the 29 nursing students who are lodged at rented rooms in private hostels run by one Taorem Gunadhor at Soibam Leikai and Wangkhei Khunou.
Informing that about 40 of them used to stay at the hostels out whom only 29 remain, the nursing students said as their insistence to return the money for they were not accommodated in a particular examination failed to evoke positive response four female instructors of the Institute were approached.
At a meeting held in December last in the presence of representatives of the student body DESAM, the instructors assured to apprise Institute founder identified as Ksh Ibotombi on the matter only to be told after some days that Ibotombi could not be traced.
Prior to the information of the founder's alleged disappearance, Ibotombi reportedly assured to arrange the money by mortgaging his homestead and agricultural land.
Stating that on being calculated the amount supposed to be fetched by sale of the properties was not enough to return the money collected from the students, they also opined that disappearance of the founder might be due to incompatibility of value of the land and the amount to be handed back to them.
Holding the lady instructors equally responsible for the entire fiasco the nursing students threatened to spoil marriage of one of the instructors with the assertion that they have information about her elopement recently.
On the otherhand, the nursing students also blamed alleged negligence on the part of the instructors for ruining their careers with the disclosure that they missed the 1st year examination scheduled on December 20, 2010 due to incompetency and carelessness of the instructors.
While information was conveyed in the morning by the instructors that the examination has been postponed following some problem at S Kumar Nursing Institute, Porompat where they were supposed to appear the said examinations, they recounted issuance of admit card by the instructors that the exam has been rescheduled on December 24 .
Contrary to instructions for laminating their respective admit cards to prevent getting it soiled, the admit cards were found not only carrying anonymous signatures but the year of examination was mentioned as 2010 for some and 2012 written on the others, the students maintained.
amid anxiety and tension prevailing in the hostels, the four instructors along with some DESAM representatives showed up and informed that the December 24 examination too is likely to be deferred, they said while adding that taking into account plight of the nursing students DESAM took the initiative for convening the joint meeting.
With the students insisting that Rs 19,050 collected from each of the students be handed back to them the meeting ended with Ksh Ibotombi giving the assurance only to disappear till date, they informed and reiterated their resolve to hold the instructors responsible for ruining their careers.
