Imphal, September 21 2013 : Asserting that functions commemorating pioneer figure Hijam Irabot would be meaningful only when the people stand unitedly to thwart relentless threat posed to the territorial integrity of Ma-nipur, CPI Manipur State council secretary Dr M nara called upon the people for fresh pledge to uphold emotional and territorial integrity of Manipur.

Addressing the gathering at the 65th Manipur Kanba Numit held at the Pungdong-bam Memorial Complex of Jananeta Irabot today, Dr Na-ra said despite looming threat in the aftermath of the ceasefire agreement between the Government of India and the NSCN (IM) which slightly subsided with the mass people's movement in June 2001 fresh threat is posed to the territory of Manipur due to the controversial indo-Myanmar boundary fencing work.

Pointing out that manipur set to lose huge tract of land on completion of the boundary fencing has been confirm- ed during visits by teams of both political and non-political organisations, the former Minister cautioned that with the issue getting complicated with each passing day the public highlighting their concern and anxiety on the issue by resorting to intense movement cannot be ruled out.

Expressing that time is ripe enough for convening a joint session of political parties to chalk up necessary strategies for protecting Manipur's boundary, the CPI leader also contended that the Government's claim of the boundary fencing work being suspended is a merely a ploy to mollify the people.

Conveying that a public meeting would be held on September 23 afternoon at Keishampat to discuss the Indo-Myanmar issue he also appealed to every section of the society to share their views and suggest effective measures for early solution to the boundary fencing dispute.

Speaking at the occasion Irabot Celebration Committee chairman N Mangi highlighted that Manipur Kanba Numit is being observed for the last many years to commemorate Irabot's launch of the revolutionary movement for protection of Manipur and its boundary.

Noting Irabot's relentless campaign to establish a Manipuri society based on socio-political equality, Mangi also cited Manipur remaining as a classless society to Irabot's effort.

In sync with the principle of Jananeta Irabot that Manipur's territorial boundary should be protected at any cost the Communist Party is committed to preserving the State's boundary, he affirmed.
