PWD to take charge of NHs from March 31 next

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has decided to hand over the works being taken up by Border Road Organisation (BRO) in connection with repairing of all the National Highways in the State to the Public Works Department (PWD) by March 31, 2014 .
According to a highly reliable source, the decision was taken during a meeting convened by Ministry of Road Transport and Highways at Delhi on September 5.The meeting discuss and review the progress of the National Highway construction works being taken up by BRO in some States of the country.
Chaired by Vijay Chhibber, Secretary of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, the meeting which was attended by concerned officials from different States including Uttarakhand, Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Tripura as well as from BRO and National Highway Authority of India and engineers of State PWDs unanimously resolved to handover all the works being taken up by BRO in different States of India excluding Jammu & Kashmir to the respective state PWDs by March 31 next year.
As such, all the repairing works along NH-2, NH-37 and NH-150 in Manipur would also be formally taken over from the BRO by the State PWD from April 1 next year.
