Sit-in demands AR Major's arrest

A mass sit-in-protest was staged at Kakching demanding arrest of then 39 Assam Rifles Major Sreeram Kumar for his alleged involvement in the murder case of Yengkhom Krishnadas.
Hailing from Kakching Sumak Leikai, Krishnadas was abducted by unknown persons from the house of Keisham Gopal of Thangmeiband Khomdram Selungba Leikai on June 9, 2009 .
He was abandoned dead at Lilong area on June 12 after taking a ransom of Rs 25 lakh by his abductors.
Four years after the incident, police arrested an accused in the case, Md Amir Ahmad alias Amir Khan alias Khan alias Samir Rahman alias Phajaba alias MM Sheikh Amar on August 22 last.
It was revealed during the course of his interrogation that Maj Sreeram Kumar was involved in the murder of Krishnadas.
It may be mentioned that Maj Sreeram Kumar was decorated with India's highest peacetime gallantry award Ashoka Chakra by the then President Pratibha Devisingh Patil on January 26, 2010 .
Speaking at the sit-in-protest, Krishnadas' wife Yengkhom Ongbi Bimola demanded immediate arrest of the Army Major to the State Government.
Bimola thanked Imphal West District Commando DSP S Ibomcha, who is the IO of the case for making a major breakthrough into the case.She also called on different civil society organisations to extend support in the movement for bringing justice to the perpetrators.
Representatives and leaders of KAWA, WACAC, Kabui Mother's Association, IPSA, All Manipur Nupi Marup Kakching Area, Poirei Leimarol, COHR, Tammi-Chingmi Lup, AMKIL, NIPCO, MAPI Council, MEEKHOL, and Nupi Samaj took part in the protest organised by Krishnadas Ningshing Lup at Ibudhou Naohallai Ground, Kakching Bazar.
Later, the gathering decided to launch different forms of agitation in case the State Government shows lackadaisical attitude in taking up suitable steps regarding the arrest of Maj Sreeram Kumar.
It also resolved to submit separate memoranda to Governor, Chief Minister and Home Minister in this regard.
