In the ongoing operation to sanitise NH-53 to make way for the highway development programme to come up, the Indian Army and Assam Rifles personnel have reached Keiphundai area of Tamenglong district.
The operation which began from Jiribam side is said to have resulted in two persons sustaining wounds in intermittent security force and underground activists clashes.
According to police source, two persons suffered bomb splinter wounds on the legs when the 9 Para Field Regiment and personnel belonging to the 26 Assam Rifles bombarded while advancing towards Keiphundai on June 3.Both the injured have been admitted to Gungur Medical Hospital located at Silchar of Assam State.
While identity of one could not be established so far, the other injured and hospitalised has been identified as one Anoubam Ramesh Sharma (25) of Thoubal bazar, said the source adding that Ramesh� legs are likely to be amputated.
Press sources also conveyed of the security force authorities having blocked vehicular traffic along the Imphal-Jiribam route for effective operation.
According to Works Minister Th Debendra the first phase of NH-53 development programme to be executed by BRTF personnel would cover 20 kilometres with Jiribam as starting point and adding that security deployment spots have been identified with necessary works underway.
