Imphal, June 07:
Reiterating that no less than complete repeal of the AFSPA 1958 would be acceptable to the people of Manipur the Working Committee of the Apunba Lup has asked the Government of India to stop the delaying tactics.
In a joint statement issued by the Lups three coordinators - A Langdon Leima, Chongtham Cha Surjit and L Bablu - the WCAL cautioned that any thing short of complete removal of the draconian Act from the North East, including Manipur would force the public to take to the streets as witnessed before.
Contending that the AFSPA review panel had wasted enough time in studying and assessing public mood inspite of clear verdict of the general public to scrap the repressive Act, the Lup observed that further delay in delivering justice to the people compounds orce personnel abusing human rights in the State.
With the AFSPA granting unrestricted power to the men in uniform for decades resulting in unaccountable number of human casualties, rape of the womenfolk and numerous civilian maimed the Lup asked the Centre against stoking public sentiment.
