State Transport Department is all gear up to contain the alarming growth of air and noise pollution.
The Director of the Department has issued a notification today to all the Districts DTOs including the Mobile Enforcement Team attached with th Secretary of State Transport Authority for launching �special drives� under their respective jurisdictions for booking MV offences against PUC norms and using of gas horns with immediate effect, disclosed a reliable source.
As part of this pollution control measures, all the vehicle owners including the Government departments (Central/State) public/private sectors and driver of all types of vehicles (personalised/commercial) have been also been asked to test their vehicles at the Pollution Testing Centres located in Imphal East District Transport Office at Palace Compound as well as at Pollution Control Board (MPCB), Langol in Imphal West compulsorily.
Those vehicles which do not undergo the test could be fined under Section 177 of Motor vehicles Act, 1988, the source said, adding that the registration certificate or permit of such vehicles could also be suspended under the provisions given in Rile 116 of Central Motor vehicle Rule, 1089.Using of laud gas-horn in public places is also punishable under Rule 119(2) of CMV Riles, 1989.
