Imphal, November 06 2017:
Even as newly appointed National Sports University (NSU), Manipur Vice Chancellor Navin Agarwal inspected its site at Haraothel recently, the National Sports University Haraothel Protection Committee has urged the authorities concerned to develop the road leading to the NSU site from Senjam Chirang via Khurkhul.
Meanwhile, contractors who would construct the sports university arrived at the site today while a team of PWD engineers inspected the road which would be used for transporting construction materials

As transportation of construction materials from Uripok-Kangchup road would be problematic, the construction materials would be taken to the NSU site from Pheidinga (NH-2) through Senjam Chirang road, informed a source .
But a 2 Km long section of the Senjam Chirang road is quite bad .
A team of PWD engineers went there to assess the road condition for repairing the degraded section, added the source .
On the other hand, a press release issued by NSUHPC general secretary Khongbantabam Alexander said that the shortest route to the NSU site from Imphal or Khuman Lampak sports complex is the Senjam Chirang road via Khurkhul from Pheidinga (NH-2) .
This route is shorter by 4/5 Kms as compared to other routes leading to Haraothel (NSU site) and there is little prospect of traffic congestion on Senjam Chirang-Haraothel road .
However, the route leading to Haraothel from Uripok-Kangchup road would be mired with traffic problems as it passes through the heart of Khwairamband Keithel .
Moreover, the route is quite longer as compared to Pheidinga-Senjam Chirang-Haraothel road .
The NSU site is only 7 Kms from Pheidinga but a 2 Km long section of this road is quite pathetic .
This section needs immediate development and there is enough space for expansion, if required, NSUHPC informed .
It pointed out that the NSU site, now acquired by Youth Affairs and Sports Department was donated by Senjam Chirang, Senjam Khunou and Koutruk villages .
It also mentioned that the Central inspection team which visited the site on November 3 recommended development of the road on priority basis .
After the National Sports University Bill 2017 was introduced in the Lok Sabha, the Bill has been referred to the Department-related Parliamentary Standing Committee on Human Resource Development headed by Rajya Sabha MP Dr Satyanarayan Jatiya .
Subsequently, the committee has invited memoranda containing views/suggestions from individuals/organisations regarding the National Sports University Bill 2017 .
Interested individuals/organisations may submit written memoranda within 15 days to Vinay Shankar Singh, Additional Director, Rajya Sabha Secretariat (Room no 222, 2nd floor, Parliament House Annexe), New Delhi .
