Imphal, October 06:
with the 15th Lok Sabha elections round the corner the Congress MP from inner Manipur Parliamentary seat Dr Th Meinya has asserted that the Indian National Congress has made all possible preparations to face the hustings without any inhibition, politically.
Addressing party workers as the chief guest during the daylong 'district level youth Congress convention' at the Congress Bhavan in Nambol of Bishnupur district today the MP speculated that the country might go to the polls either after the Lok Sabha passes the Vote of Account in February-march next or in November 2008 on completion of the 2008-09 budgetary exercise.
Expressing confidence of Congress party nominees pocketing both the inner and Outer Parliamentary seats in the forthcoming election, Dr meinya also made a scathing remark against the Left parties persisting with their opposition on the twin issues of foreign direct investment and the Indo-US nuclear deal.
Strongly criticising charges levelled by the UPA allies against the Government on the twin issues which the MP dismissed as irrational, he hailed the Indo-US nuclear agreement as the best deal Prime Minister Dr manmohan Singh had entered into.
Dr Meinya also spoke on insurgency problem in the State, law and order situation and development.
The convention organised by Bishnupur district Youth Congress Committee under the aegis of manipur Pradesh Youth Congress Committee (MPYCC) was presided by president of the host Committee Hemam Boyai Singh.
Highlighting that the convention was part of similar programmes held at the block, district and State levels as well as preparation for a convention of Indian Youth Congress slated for later part of the month in the national capital, the functional president also expressed that ultimate purpose of such conventions is vital to Congress party's aim of returning to power in the Centre on its own strength.
without direct reference to any political organisation, he slammed politicians who futilely attempted to emotionally blackmail electorates during the 9th State Assembly elections riding on the planks of territorial integrity.
In similar tone, Boyai came down heavily against the left parties that project themselves to be harbinger of the working class.
belittling such concept of the Left parties he expressed awe on opposition of the Leftists to any policy of the Govt to address grievances of the common people.
the convention resolved on Congress units and volunteers work with cohesion for ensuring victory of Congress candidates in the 15th Lok Sabha elections.
Pledge by the youth Congress activists to safeguard territorial integrity of manipur, exposing and checking political parochialism of communal outfits and support to decision of the party leaders on the delimitation issue were the other highlight of the Convention.
Congress MLAs M Manindra and Govindas Konthoujam, MPYCC president Tilotama Devi, former party legislators L Radhakishore and S Bira were the guests of honour of the Convention also attended by numerous party leaders and loyalists.
