With the Prime Minister scheduled to visit Manipur later this month, the State Cabinet met this evening to review the work progress for the high profile visit.
Talking to The Sangai Express a well placed source said that the meeting centred around the impending visit of the Prime Minister and the steps to be taken up for protection of Kangla once the Assam Rifles vacates the historic fort.
The Cabinet decided to instruct the relevant authority to speed up their respective works for the Prime Minister to lay the foundation stone of the Cultural Complex at Palace compound as well to lay the foundation stones of the Manipur Legislative Assembly and High Court complex at Chingmeirong as part of the capitol project.
Decision to construct an approach road to lay the foundation stone of the Assembly and High Court complex was also taken, said the source.
The Cabinet further decided to convey to the MU authority to get ready for the PM to announce the conversion of the university into a Central university.
Preparations to make the PM attend the convocation ceremony of MU will also be taken up.
The Prime Minister will also be urged to lay the foundation stone of the rail head connecting Imphal to Jiribam.
The Cabinet also decided to take up the Loktak Downstream Project as a State Project following the refusal of the NHPC to take up the task, said the source adding that the PM will also be asked to lay the foundation stone of the project.
The State Government has also requested the Prime Minister to visit Manipur before the Indo-ASEAN car rally is flagged off from Assam on November 22, said the source.
