Imphal, November 02:
After finalizing the Government formation in Maharastra, the AICC has now set its eyes on cleansing the internal mess of the State unit Congress, where voices of dissent against the present leadership have been growing audible by the day.
The Congress has been rocked by voices of internal dissent for quite some time and now with the fissures coming out in the open, the AICC leadership is keen on settling the issue before it blows out of control, said a well placed source, while speaking to The Sangai Express.
Two camps have emerged amongst the Congress MLAs with one rooting for the leadership of Chief Minister O Ibobi while the other has gone for the jugular to unseat him.
The down sizing of the Ministry had added fuel to the fire with some Congress MLAs even going to Delhi to plot the removal of the Chief Minister.
To study the ground situation and get a first hand report on the internal dissent within the Congress, CWC member and Ex-MP Ramesh Channithala, in charge of the North East sans Assam, will arrive here tomorrow.
Channithala was supposed to visit Meghalaya and Manipur to over see the election of the PCCs and block Congress committees but with the internal crisis within the Congress growing by the day, the CWC member has cancelled his Meghalaya tour.
The Central leader is expected to be accompanied by Lourembam Manglem who was the media coordinator for the Congress in the 2000 election.
Three MLAs who are presently camping at Delhi are also expected to accompany Channithala.
The Central leader will be here for three days and he is expected to study the internal differences within the Congress party.
The CWC member will meet the pro-Ibobi and anti-Ibobi bloc and will submit his report to the AICC high command.
Ramesh will leave for Delhi on November 5 and he is likely to submit his report to the AICC leadership the same day.
With the Central observer set to arrive tomorrow, the anti-Ibobi and pro-Ibobi blocs have started preparing their reports which will be aired to the observer.
The Chief Minister and his band of faithfuls are understood to have outlined the achievement and progress of the SPF Government under the leadership of O Ibobi, said a well placed source.
Similarly the anti-CM group has also drawn up its battle plans and they are all set to highlight the series of scams that have rocked the Government particularly the scams surrounding the Works Department.
Earlier 20 Congress MLAs had submitted a signed affidavit to the Centre urging the AICC leaders to remove Ibobi from the post of Chief Minister.
As the internal dissent became fodder for the public, the AICC had earlier deputed a Central observer to study the situation here.
