New Delhi, November 02:
Government will soon form an expert group to look into the legal, constitutional and "moral" aspects of the controversial Armed Forces Special Powers Act, a group demanding its withdrawal in Manipur said today.
The group, comprising Parliamentarians, politicians and representatives from Manipur, will soon be formed to "review" the Act for replacing it by a more "humane" one, A Lokendra, head of the Apunba Lup delegation, which called on Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil, said after the meeting.
Expressing satisfaction with their meetings with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Patil, Lokendra told reporters "you cannot see it as a shifting stance or anything else since these are political terms, but one can say we had heart-to-heart dialogue and they both gave a patient hearing".
"We are all for going forward," he said but maintained that it was not possible at this stage to say whether the agitation demanding repeal of AFSPA will be called off.
