Inflated price slur on chemists

Imphal, March 02 2012:
Some pharmacists who are running their shops outside RIMS campus have been duping patients through their agents by charging extra money for drugs purchased from them.
Talking to The Sangai Express, a patient party said that drugs necessary for ceasarian delivery were delivered to them by a pharmacy through its agent.
But at the time of discharge when the bill was brought, it was found the prices of all drugs were inflated and the number of drugs was much more than the number actually delivered.
On account of such sly practices on the part of pharmacists, unsuspecting patients have been spending Rs 8000 to Rs 10,000 in buying only a few number of drugs.
Showing a bill/cash receipt sent by a pharmacy, the patient party said that for one piece of Vasofix 18-G drug whose printed MRP is Rs 95, the price was entered as Rs 260 in the bill.
In the particular case of ceasarian delivery, either Volulyte or Zetraspan can be used and there was no need to take both the drugs but in the bill both the drugs were entered together with their prices.
Moreover, four Sioxom-S pieces were purchased as per the prescription of doctors but again eight pieces were entered together with their prices in the bill.
Saying that such practices of certain pharmacies is nothing day-light robbery, the patient sought immediate attention of the hospital authority.
