A nine member team of the Apunba Lup left for New Delhi today to hold talks with Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh on the demand of the people for the complete revocation of Armed Forces Special Powers Act from the State.
Speaking to mediapersons at the Imphal airport before departing for New Delhi, Apunba Lup's coordinator Laishram Babloo said that the delegation will highlight the people's demand for complete removal of all draconian laws from the State during the meeting with the Prime Minister at New Delhi tomorrow.
On being asked whether the Prime Minister will yield to their demand and fulfil the aspirations of people, Babloo said with an air of confidence that the delegation hope to bring a logical conclusion out of the talks and end the agitation which has rocked the State for the last three/four months.
He also said that the delegation will be putting forward the people's demand for removal of AFSPA from the State during the talks with the PM which has been scheduled at 4 pm tomorrow.
He however declined to give any comment on being asked what would be the future course of action if the talks fail to bring out any logical conclusion.
The nine member delegation which left Imphal for New Delhi included Dr Lokendra Arambam (Educationist), Moirangthem Joychandra (Advocate), coordinators Chongtham Surjit, AK Langdon and Laishram Babloo, Laishram Romesh (DESAM president), Gourachandra (MSF president), L Memchoubi (Poirei Leimarol Apunba Nupi Lup) and Y Leirik (Kanglei Mei).
IAS officer RK Nimai who will be felicitating the talks between the Prime Minister and the Apunba Lup leaders also left for New Delhi today along with the delegation.
