Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh has stated that success of Congress candidate in getting highest number of votes in the result of the just declared by-election to Moirang Assembly Constituency would remains as a record in the Constituency.
Speaking at the reception function hosted in honour of Mairembam Prithiviraj who won the by-election at Congress Bhavan here today, the Chief Minister pointed out that none of the Congress candidates which have been elected from the said Constituency in the past elections were able to get more than 1000 votes.

So the number of votes cast in favour of the Congress candidate in the just concluded by-election was a record and beyond the expectation of the party.
The Congress party had only hoped of getting around 3/4 votes just to defeat the candidates of the rival parties be it the BJP or the MPP, so that they could never get up again, the Chief Minister said, adding that the Congress party would not forget the solid support of the minority Muslim voters in contrary to the earlier apprehension of dividing the votes.
Congress party would ensure implementation of all the promises made to the people of Moirang in various election meetings held in different parts of the Constituency before the next Lok Sabha election, the Chief Minister assured.
While observing that during election time people would definitely ask where the sum of Rs 80 lakhs given to every MLAs in a year for taking up developmental works of their respective Assembly Constituencies, the Chief Minister expressed desire on the part of the MLAs for transparency in utilising these amounts.
Maintaining that it would be more appropriate to take the opportunity of discussing the matter within the party and try to correct any mistakes that he could have possibility committed instead of speaking up in public meetings, the Chief Minister appealed to the party workers for working together for the success of the Congress party in the upcoming Lok Sabha election in both the seats so as to strengthen the position of AICC chief Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh.
