Imphal, December 26 2017:
Acting on a proposal submitted by All Manipur Nupi Maanbi Association (AMANA) to the RIMS Medical Superintendent, the hospital has allotted a separate waiting seat for transgenders at its OPD counter area to avoid misunderstanding and discrimination against the transgender community pertaining to heathcare services.
According to a press release issued by Santa Khurai, secretary of AMANA, Prof Arunkumar, RIMS Medical Superintendent has also assured the association that a separate toilet for transgenders would be constructed at the new OPD building of the hospital.
The release said AMANA has been organising sensitization and orientation workshops on transgender rights along with healthcare service providers both in the hills and valley.
The sensitization and orientation workshops were organised under 'Project Access' being implemented by Solidarity & Action Against HIV Infection in India, it added.
