Sit in protest held

A sit in protest was staged by Manipur Muslim Welfare Organisation (MMWO) Irong Chesaba branch at Irong Chesaba Makha Leikai in which MMWO HQs executive member, Md Ayub Khan cautioned that the organisation will launch stringent agitation if the State Government fails to meet the demands of MMWO.
Members of MMWO demanded the State Government to investigate ad produce the paper regarding different schemes and initiatives taken up by Minorities and Other backward Classes (MOBC) Department for the minority community during the year 2010- 2017 .
It also urged the State Govt to execute the previous Govt's cabinet decision to make the Directorate for Minorities functional.
MMWO has been protesting against the Government since December 22 and the protest was held as a part of their agitation.
Speaking to media persons, Md Ayub Khan stated that the Central Government has launched numerous schemes for the minority communities, however, the minorities under MOBC Department have not been not ale to avail the benefits of the schemes properly.
Only around 20 percent of the minority community (2010-2017) have benefited from the schemes till date, he added.
The organisation will not be a mere spectator of the prolonged negligence of the State Government and the Department concerned towards the repeated appeals and memorandum urging to take necessary action, he added.
He noted that the Congress Govt, before the 11th Manipur Assembly election, had taken a cabinet decision to form and establish a Directorate for minority, but the BJP Government has not implemented the decision till date.
