Imphal, October 11 2014 :
The Pharmacy Department in the Government Polytechnic at Takyalpat in Imphal has been infested with numerous grievances, thereby hampering the training for pharmacists for the last few years.
In a statement, the Unemployed Pharmacists Association of Manipur has alleged that there are only 4 lecturers in the Pharmacy department of Government Polytechnic as against the provision for 7 lecturers.
The absence of Mali (Gardener) at the department has hindered the practical classes, as the medicinal plants used in the practical classes are not properly provided, the Association pointed out, while adding that the post of Laboratory Attendant is also yet to be filled.
The Association demanded the government to upgrade the Pharmacy Department of Government Polytechnic to a Pharmacy College by inserting degree level classes, in view of the large number of students who go to other states for study of degree in Pharmacy.
