Imphal, June 11 2021:
Though Covid positive patients are generally discharged after their conditions improve so that they could recuperate at home, the hospital stay is not the only part that is crucial in making a good recovery from Covid-19 infection.
Hospitalised Covid patients usually needs several weeks before they can resume their normal activities.
According to senior consultant (medicine) Dr Narendra Potsangbam of Shija Hospitals and Research Institute, post Covid complications generally last for at least 60 days after discharge and as such recovered patients will need to maintain good hygiene and proper care for at least two months.
Among the Covid patients, 20 per cent have severe conditions and maximum of them have co-morbid conditions.
Considering the long-lasting complications of Covid-19, an otherwise healthy person who has recovered from severe Covid should not take the condition lightly and take every possible care to stay alert and get a good recovery for at least two months.
Getting more rest and sleep along with good diets and hygiene would prove beneficial.
Patients with history of diabetes, cardiovascular disease and lung infection often face worsening conditions after Covid recovery and they will need proper care, rest, balanced diet and good hygiene for at least three months.
Hard works should be avoided while short distance walk and breathing exercise are beneficial.
At the same time, people who have experienced mild Covid infection also need to take proper care for some weeks and avoid drinking and protracted exposure to sunlight, he said.
Though the virus usually goes extinct after 14 days, the symptoms linger for two to three months.
Any health complication after recovering from Covid should be consulted with medical practitioner.
Considering the health complications among Covid recovered people, Shija Hospitals is all set to conduct a study to assess the post Covid complications, he revealed.
