Imphal, June 11 2021:
Covid Task Force Charhajare has dismissed as 'baseless' the allegations levelled by Motbung Task Force against one Pradeep Karki, who was thrashed by the police on the charge of violating curfew on June 7 night.
In a release, Covid Task Force Charhajare in-charge Santosh Rizal stated that the claim made by CTF Motbung is not only condemnable but is also malicious.
Making such false report without proper understanding of the circumstance is unfortunate as the victim who was beaten and harassed is innocent, the release maintained, adding that as soon as Pradeep Karki's brother left for home after having dinner together, he (brother) was detained by police personnel in front of Karki's house which is close to the national highway.
To clarify the situation, Karki went out to talk to the police but he was assaulted, it maintained.
The release also noted that in the fabricated report another false allegation was levelled of a birthday party celebrated in Karki's house in violation of Covid safety guidelines.
While clarifying that no such birthday party was organised, the release said: "We are living in the 21st century modern world where using of mobile phones, filming and recording are inevitable.
The video of Pradeep Karki with the cane marks on his body and swelling on his left hand went viral and reached the higher authority as a result of which the police officer was suspended for his misconduct".
Moreover, the posers raised on the victim's character by the convener of CTF Motbung are totally ridiculous, inauthentic and a desperate attempt to mislead the fact of the incident, the CFT Charhajare said and appealed to all concerned not to circulate such fabricated news before the culmination of the enquiry ordered by the higher authority.
