Imphal, June 11 2021:
Legal actions will be taken against MLA of Khurai Assembly Constituency Leishangthem Susindro if he does not withdraw his statement that Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana (PMGKAY) rice will not be given to those residents of Khurai A/C who have not taken the COVID-19 vaccine.
The above statement was made by social worker Laitonjam Jayananda, the intending candidate from Khurai A/C in the upcoming State Assembly Election through a video released through social media.
L Jayananda said that such a irresponsible statement from an MLA is not called for though it might have been made by him to motivate the locals to take the vaccine and stay protected.
He continued that such a statement violates the Constitutional which intends to take away the right to food and it's unfortunate that the Covid vaccination drive has been linked with PMGKAY Scheme.
The MLA should withdraw the statement at the earliest though it was made by mistake, he added.
He also lauded the various measures made by the Government and departments concerned, frontline workers, CSOs, NGOs and the MLA of Khurai A/C to contain the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic in the constituency.
He went on to say that such a statement from the MLA at such a crucial juncture has created confusions among the residents of Khurai A/C and has raised many questions whether all the residents which amounts to around 33,000 can be covered in a month or so by the mass vaccination drive.
Lastly L Jayananda appealed to CAF and PD and authorities concerned that such a statement by MLA should not be made applicable and urged the L Susindro to withdraw his statement at the earliest in the interest of the public, failing which legal action will be taken against him.
