Customary law fails to function in Ngainga village after riot

Customary law has ceased to function in Ngainga village under Ukhrul district following ransacking and burning down of the office of Ngainga Village Authority, which also used to serve as the residence of village Headman RS Khangamkhai, on October 16 last.
Speaking to Hueiyen Lanpao, RS Khaningkhai, Mantri of Ngainga Village Authority, said that the people of the village have been depending on the customary law in case of any conflict among individual or groups.
However, after ransacking and burning down of the office of Ngainga Village Authority on October 16 last, the customary law has ceased to function, thus creating problems in the administration of the village.
He also informed that an FIR has been lodged with the Somdal Police Station in connection with the October 16 night incident.
However, no definite action has been taken up and the culprits still remain out in the open.
Khaningkhai also expressed desire for some help from the side of the state government in re-building the house of the Village Head, which also serves as the office of Ngainga Village Authority.
