Imphal, October 21 2012:
Olympic bronze medalist M.C Mary Kom's comment has irked the journalist fraternity in Manipur.
In Sunday's edition of most National papers and news channels, Mary Kom was quoted as saying that she had never received support from the Manipur press whereas she has been the darling of the national media.
"When I won a medal in the Asian Games, no one from Manipur press came to me or called me up.
I did not get any support from them when I qualified for the Olympics 2012, whereas I got wholesome support from the national media.
I thank the national media for the support that they have given me throughout my career," Mary Kom was quoted as saying while talking to the media
in Aizawl.
Fueled by this report, All Manipur Working Journalists' Union (AMWJU) has retorted that the comment of the Olympic bronze medalist was unfortunate if she had said so.

In a statement, the media fraternity here said that international or national media started focusing on Mary Kom only after they came to know the woman boxer had a medal prospect in the Olympic Games.
"Whereas we, the media in Manipur, have been with her right from the start when she was almost nobody," said AMWJU.
"Everyone is welcome to look for himself/herself from the archive of any media house to see whether the press here has been discriminating her or not," AMWJU invited.
The media fraternity in Manipur expressed unhappiness over bringing a communal colour in the sports arena by Mary Kom and then said that Mary Kom should have informed AMWJU if she had any problem with the media in the state.
