Imphal, October 21 2012:
Democratic Students Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) has pledged to join the ongoing relay hunger strike being staged by the Coordinating Committee of College Students Union (CCCSU) pressing various demands since October 17 .
This was announced by DESAM president Wangma-yum Islauddin in a press conference held at DESAM office, Keishampat today.
Maintaining that the demands of CCCSU are rightful, Islauddin asserted that DESAM has been pressing the same demands since past many years.
CCCSU is currently demanding appointment of regular Principals in different Government colleges and fill up the vacant post of Director in Directorate of Higher Education The committee is also demanding for maintaining college libraries with modern amenities, providing internet facility and 20-hour power supply to colleges and building separate lavatories for boys and girls.
Islauddin observed that degradation of collegiate education in the State is due to absence of regular Principals in Government colleges and Director in Directorate of Higher Education.
Terming appointment of an IPS officer as the Chairman of Board of Secondary Education, Manipur as unfortunate, Islauddin questioned whether the Director's post in Directorate of Higher Education would face the same fate.
DESAM would initiate more effective means of agitation by joining the current stir of CCCSU if the State Government does not fulfil the demands of the committee within October 26, he added.
