Imphal, October 21 2012:
Having done enough on the issue, Meetei Erol Eyek Loinasillon Apunba Lup (MEELAL), which was initially instituted to protect and promote Meetei script, has now turned its attention to preservation and promotion of Meeteilon (indigenous Manipuri language) .
A meeting in connection with preservation and promotion of Meeteilon, which has now become blended with many foreign words, was held at the head office of MEELAL on September 5 last and a six member sub-committee was formed and appointed Vice President of MEELAL Moirangthem Naokhomba as Chairman of the Sub-Committee.
As a follow up, a discussion session on the issue was held in the head office of MEELAL today with various experts in the field.
The discussion session was presided over by Moirangthem Naokhomba.
Members present on the occasion expressed apprehension over extinction of originality of Meeteilol as many people of the state have started using mixed language instead of the indigenous Meeteilon.
Accordingly, the meeting resolved to take up necessary actions for the protection and promotion of Meeteilon.
Furthermore, it was decided that another meeting would be soon convened in this regard at the earliest.
Today's discussion session was also attended by Seram Mangi, former News Editor of All India Radio Imphal; Dr Laishram Mahabir, Joint Director of Language Cell; K Manibabu, Vice Principal of Ibotonsana Higher Secondary School; Dr H Indrakumar, HOD of Political Science, Modern College; Naoroibam Indramani of State Archives; Asem Inaoba, President of KALAM; Kh Rajen, Secretary of Manipur Sahitya Parishad; Saratchand Thiyam, President of SATHOULUP; Advocate Tomba and Advisors of MEELAL Thawailemba and Ngaseppam Yumjao.
