POL Depot at Malom

To be constructed with the stated purpose of ensuring adequate supply of petroleum products in the State, the proposed POL Depot at Malom, Imphal would have a storing capacity of 21,975 Kilolitre of petroleum products.
The Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh would be laying the foundation stone of the proposed POL Depot during his forthcoming visit to Manipur.
According to information received from the Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL), Imphal Branch, fencing of the site, where the POL Depot is set to come up, is underway on war footing.
The complex of the POL Depot would spread over an area of 36 acres and the construction work is expected to be completed within the next 2/3 years.
On the operational mechanism of the POL Depot, the source explained that Motor Spirit (MS) Oil would be stored in the Floating Roof Vertical Tank (FRVT) while High Spirit (HS) Diesel and SK Oil in Cone Roof Vertical Tank (CRVT).
In this connection, IOCL has already installed 9 tanks.
Of the 9 tanks, 5,124 Kilolitre of MS Oil (Class-A product) would be stored in 3 FRVTs, each measuring 16 meter in diameter and 9.5 metre in height.
5055 Kilolitre of SK Oil (Class-B product) would be stored in 3 CRVTs, each measuring 14 metre in diameter and 11 metre in height and 11,796 Kilolitre of HS Diesel in another 3 CRVTs, each measuring 18 metre in diameter and 15.5 metre in height, the source disclosed.
It is said that the storing capacity of the existing Oil Depot at Chingmeirong covering an area of 3.33 acres is just 6545 Kilolitres.
Meanwhile, another source has disclosed that Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh would be laying the foundation stone of the proposed POL Depot at Malom when he come to inaugurate the Assembly complex at Chingmeirong, City Convention Centre at Palace Compound in last week of November.
