18 UG cadres lay down arms

Altogether 18 cadres of seven different UG groups laid down arms before Chief Minister Okram Ibobi today and surrendered to the Government.
The surrender function christened home-coming ceremony was held at Hqs IG AR (S) at Mantripukhri.
It was attended by Chief Minister Okram Ibobi, Deputy Chairman of State Planning Board Bijoy Koijam, DGP Y Joykumar and IG AR (S) UK Gurung.
Of the 19 cadres who surrendered today, 11 were from KNLF, two from PREPAK and once each from KCP, UNLF, UPPK, PLA and PRA.
They brought along four AK-56 rifles, two AK-47 rifles, three 9 mm pistols, one two-inch mortar, one 7.65 mm pistol, one M-16 rifle, one radio set and a large of ammunition and magazines.
The KNLF cadres have been identified as S/S Capt Lunkholal Lalboi Haokip alias Paominlen of Moreh Ward No 1, S/S defence PRO Hoklam of Sonjei (Churachandpur), S/S finance secretary Lialpu Mate of Sahumphai (Sugnu), S/S recruiting officer Thangminlien Baite alias Minlen of K Sabi (Sugnu), S/S Cpl Letminthang Mate alias Garugam of Joupi, S/S Lt Lunthang Baite of K Sabi, pvt Jamkholet Khongsai alias Lelen of Tuibong, pvt Thangjapao Haokip alias Golngei of Tuibong, pvt Jangkhohao Vaiphei alias HP of Moreh Ward No 6, pvt Thangpao Mate of Zoujang and pvt Shonlen alias Lenbu of Vipijang, Sugnu.

The two PREPAK cadres were identified as S/S Sgt Maj Thingbaijam Herojit of Lairikyengbam Awang Leikai and S/S Cpl Abung of Pukhao.
The others who surrendered to the Government were KCP's S/S L/Cpl M Jagat of Nachou Mayai Leikai, UNLF's Longjam Ratan of Toubul Awang Leikai, UPPK's S/S L/Cpl Hemam Inao of Moirang Khunou, PLA's S/S Cpl M Jayenta of Wangkhei Ayangpalli and PRA's pvt Apu Kom of Kakching Mantak.
Speaking at the occasion, Chief Minister Okram Ibobi stated that the struggle based on ethnic identities coupled with the problem of economic development has posed serious constraints in the State.
The continued blockade on National Highways has created scarcity of essential commodities in the State.
Stating that the Government has been trying to improve the living standard of people of the State through various developmental programmes, the Chief Minister conceded people are still unable to enjoy the benefits of development programmes due to several disturbances and impediments.
He also stated that no Government can bring about any successful change without support of the people.
While all communities and groups may pursue their legitimate aspirations, there should not be any compromise on certain core developmental issues which touch the life of each and every individual, he added.
