NESO organises candlelight vigil

North East Students Organisation (NESO) organised a candlelight vigil at Latashil Ground, Guwahati, today, honouring the brave souls who sacrificed their lives during the foreigner issue and for showing solidarity to those who were injured during the protest against the Citizenship Amendment Bill 2016 at Assam, Manipur and Tripura.
It may be mentioned that the Assam Accord was signed after around 860 people lost their lives during the Assam Foreigner issue in between 1979-1985 which was spearheaded by All Assam Students' Union (AASU) .
In Manipur, two members of All Manipur Students' Union (AMSU) lost their lives during the foreigner issue in the State during 1979-1980, leading to the signing of an agreement between AMSU, AMSCOC and the Government on August 5, 1980.NESO also met various political leaders in Delhi in an attempt to prevent the BJP Government from passing the CAB.
Pointing out that CAB was not passed due to the unity among the North East people, NESO conveyed that it will stand strong and firm for the welfare of the region and its people.
