Imphal, February 14 2019:
While maintaining that the concerted efforts of womenfolk, CSOs, public, political parties of both the Opposition and Ruling parties, have led to the failure to table the Citizenship Amendment Bill 2016 in the Rajya Sabha, the North East India Development Party (NEIDP) has demanded the State Government to carry out necessary update of NRC to detect illegal migrants in the State immediately.
Speaking to media persons at the conference hall of S ALAI Holdings Private Limited, near Tera Bazar, its president Narengbam Samarjit Singh conveyed that CAB 2016 was not tabled in the Rajya Sabha as the Central Government ultimately acknowledged the collective voice of the public, womenfolk, CSOs, political parties, regardless of Opposition or Ruling.
He then went on to ask the Central Government not to introduce and pass any Bill which could harm the indigenous people of the State and the North East region in the future.
The Central Government, be it formed by any political parties, should not introduce any policies which could affect the North East Region politically, economically and socially, he cautioned.
The NEIDP president then demanded the State Government to detect illegal migrants in the State through NRC update.
Saying that the movement carried out by Imas (womenfolk) against CAB was meant to save the indigenous people of the State and not at the behest or influence of any party, Samarjit claimed that NEIDP will not tolerate it if any political parties or any group attempted to defile the sanctity of the Imas.
Further conveying that NEIDP will kickstart a campaign with the aim of making the coming Lok Sabha and all other future elections in the State free and fair, Samarjit sought the cooperation of all political parties, CSOs and public in the campaign as well.
