Awareness programmes conclude

The week long awareness programme held by the PHED, Government of Manipur, under Swachh Bharat mission on TsTational Rural Drinking Water and Sanitation' concluded with the observation of 'World Water Day ' today.
A State level quiz competition marked the end of the week long awareness programme.
The awareness programme was launched on March 16 at Manipur Film Development Society, MSFDS.
Capacity Communication Development Unit (CCDU) Director L Somikanta, during his speech at the closing function attributed the decreasing amount of river water to mass deforestation in both hills and valley.
The closing event also hosted a prize distribution ceremony for the winners of the State level quiz competition held at MSFDS today.
The first, second and third position holders of the competition were conferred a prize money of Rs 10,000, 7000 and 5000 respectively.
Consolation award of Rs 2000 were also given to selected participants of the competition.
Meanwhile, I/E PHE Division, PHE Department also conducted a similar awareness programme at Kontha Khabam, Ahallup Mayai Leikai, Imphal East as part of the National Rural Drinking Water and Sanitation Week under Swachh Bharat Mission (Gramin) .
Additional Chief Engineer, PHED L Ibomcha, Adakshya I/E P Bimola, retired SE, PHED Ph Yaima, Ksh Lalitbabu EE, I/E PHED and Dr T Dayananda, MO of PHE Heingang graced the programme as chief guest, president and guests of honour respectively.
Resource persons demonstrated the varied techniques and methods for purifying water during the programme.
Ksh Lalitbabu, during his speech, said that the awareness programme was organised to inform the public of the necessity of water conservation and purification.
Asserting that it would be a shame to face water crisis with 1495 mm of rain received every year, Lalitbabu said, "it's up to us to manage our water resources and the role of the public needs to be stressed" .
The programme also demonstrated the benefits of using sanitary latrines for sustainable development of the State.
