2 labourers abducted against ransom

Imphal, March 22 2015:
Two labourers engaged in the construction work of Imphal-Tamenglong (IT) road have been abducted by some unidentified militants in connection with a monetary demand of Rs one crore.
Aboy alias Dhamen (30) of , Mayangkhang Ningthoupham, Senapati district was abducted by some unidentified persons from Thonglam Akutpa village, about 26 Kms away from Kangpokpi at Around 5 pm of March 18, informed a source.
He was working under sub-contractor Joy.
One hour earlier, another labourer Bidhu (70) of Kyamgei was abducted by another group of unidentified persons from the road connecting Chalwa and Khoikol, about 50 Kms away from Kangpokpi.
Bidhu was working under sub-contractor K Dhiren.
Construction work of the 70 Kms long road Kangpokpi to Tamei is being executed under the State PWD.
One sub-contractor engaged in the road construction work was asked by some unidentified persons through telephone to give them Rs one crore, garnered from his own contribution and contribution of the second sub-contractor.
However, the man who rang up the sub-contractor did not disclose the militant group for which he was working.
He was speaking broken Manipuri and appeared to be a hill man.
One of the sub-contractors has appealed to the group concerned to release the two labourers safe and sound after considering the sufferings of the two families.
Drug seized : Troops of 9 Assam Rifles seized Ephe-drine powder worth around Rs 35 lakhs in Moreh yester day, reports our correspondent.
