Union Minister underlines importance of 'Digital India

National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT), Chura-chandpur was inaugurated by Rajeev Chandrashekhar, who is the union minister of state for Skill Development & Entrepreneurship & Electronics and Information Technology, at NIELIT centre on Thursday.
Rajeev Chandrashekhar also inaugurated Kokrajhar, Tejpur, Imphal and Aizawl NIELIT centres in virtual mode.
The union minister was accompanied by Kakching MLA M Rameshwar and other dignitaries from NIELIT centre, besides Dr Jaideep Kumar Mishra, director general of NIELIT, Pawan Yadav, DC Churachandpur and Th Prameshwor Singh, executive director NIELIT.
Jaideep Mishra, joint secretary and DGP NIELIT delivered the welcome address.
The union minister said that his responsibility has excited him because there is one common focus to empower and bring the youth of Mizoram, Manipur, Nagaland and Assam on the path of development as India progresses, adding that this has been Prime Minister Modi's vision since 2014 to bring in technology in governance so that the government and the people's lives are changed.
The Prime Minister, Rajeev said, looks at the north eastern region as an asset that will grow and develop, creating more opportunities.
This is called the Act East Policy and based on this many programmes and policies have been formulated to empower the north east and the Prime Minister's third vision is to empower the women of India.
To empower and develop the north east, he has brought in a lot of technologies and invested a huge sum of money, he added.
While emphasising the importance of technology and computer knowledge, Rajeev Chandrashekhar said that he did not come here to simply inaugurate a building but to turn the building into a job creation centre.
This will not be a mere training centre but a centre which will improve the skills of the youngsters through which they will get employment, he assured.
National Institute of Electronics & Information Technology centre, an autonomous scientific society under the administrative control of Ministry of Electronic & Information, was set up to carry out human resource development and related activities in the area of information, electronics and communication technology.
NIELIT is continuously making efforts towards ensuring success of the government flagship programme 'Digital India' by delivering technical education in IECT area to masses across the country.
Currently, 21 NIELIT centres are operational at different locations of NE India and one centre at Dimapur, Nagaland has also been approved and renovation of space is in progress.
Two NIELIT centres in Ma-nipur, two in Assam, one in Aizawl were also inaugurated on Thursday.
Earlier, in the day, Rajeev Chandrashekhar paid a visit to Rooman Tech Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Kendra (PMKK) at Kwakeithel.
Interacting with the media, Chandrasekhar said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of Skill India is gradually realising in the country.
Under the initiative, several educated youths are getting skill trainings in different fields and new entrepreneurs are emerging from different parts of the country.
His visit is part of the Centre's policy of paying regular visit to skill development centres across the country, he said and added that he will also visit the state in future to interact with more entrepreneurs.
He stressed that advancement in technology can bring economic development and further improve the relationship between the government and public.
