Moirang, September 16 2021:
The freedom of the press has been subjugated and any attempt to criticise the Government for any wrongdoings have been dealt severely under various laws.
MPCC president N Loken said this at the felicitation program organised by Nambol Block Congress Committee at Nambol Congress Bhawan to felicitate him on his appointment as president of MPCC and alleged that the freedom of the press and their independence have been lost under the present BJP Government.
He added that the Indian National Congress will get a majority number of seats and form Government in the upcoming general election and to achieve this target, he has been working with the party leaders to strengthen the party in the State.
N Loken said the public has seen through the false promises made by a number of National leaders of the ruling party.
The leaders had promised that the Imphal-Jiribam highway would be developed to such a condition that even aircraft will be able to land there, but the present condition of the highway tells a very different story, he added.
The grants given for construction of houses in instalments have not been released regularly and the poor have been unable to complete their construction due to lack of funds, he added.
Such failure to keep their promises and making false promises has eroded the confidence of the public in the BJP and the right thing for the public to do would be to vote for the Congress party in order to bring a peaceful society in the State, he said.
The fruits of developmental works taken up by the Congress during its tenure are being claimed as their own by BJP, he added.
He also alleged that though the Government is claiming to be providing benefits under CMHT and PMJAY, the fact is that funds for these schemes have already been collected from the public in the form of GST, higher prices of petrol, diesel, LPG, etc.
N Loken also said that India being a 'secular' country has no place for the agenda of enforcing a single language, religion in the country.
The felicitation program was attended by L Lokendro, president, NBCC; S Budhachandra, ex-president Bishnupur District Congress Committee amongst others.
