World Suicide Prevention Day observed

The 19th World Suicide Prevention Day-2021 was observed on Thursday at PHC Noney under the aegis of District Mental Health Programme, District Health Society, Noney.
The programme was held in the presence of Adai Dangmei, chairman Villages Council Longmai Area, as chief guest; Dr Edwin Golmei, chief medical officer, Noney as president and Dr Azin Maringmei, DPO, National Leprosy Eradication Programme, as guest of honour.
In her keynote address, Dr Shillu Khaidem, district nodal officer, District Menta Health programme, spoke on the year's theme "Creating Hope Through Action", explaining the role played by various stakeholders in preventing suicide.
The dignitaries also delivered insightful speeches on the need for preventing suicide.
The programme also highlighted the activities undertaken by DMHP.
To pay respect to suicide victims and show solidarity to their families, a one-minute silence was observed.
IEC materials were also handed over to the ASHAs for distribution among the general population.
The event was attended by doctors, nurses, para-medical staff and ASHA workers.
