Role of engineers in nation building highlighted

The 54th Engineers Day 2021 was celebrated on the theme "Engineers Day" - for skill development and employment in combating COVID" through hybrid mode with few people attending the event held on Wednesday at the seminar hall of The Institution of Engineers (India) Manipur State Centre, Government Polytechnic campus, Imphal as well as through online platform (Google Meet).
Past chairmen, secretaries, corporate members of IEI, engineers from various engineering departments of the state, representatives from academic Institutions and invitees attended the celebration.
In a release, IEI Manipur State Centre informed that its past chairman and retired chief engineer (PWD) M Lokendro underlined the importance of engineers in building the nation and lauded the dedicated engineers who have worked tirelessly in spite of the prevailing Covid-19 pandemic.
As a part of the programme, the welcome address was delivered by IEI Manipur secretary Achom Roudrajit followed by offering of floral tributes to the portrait of Bharat Ratna Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya and lamp lighting ceremony by the dignitaries.
Deliberating on the celebration theme JCRE Skill Solutions director and CEO L Niranjan Singh enlightened the gathering on the importance of skills for the emerging youths of the state and the nation.
He mentioned that, for a person to earn his/her livelihood properly without depending on white-collar jobs, necessary skills must be attained on respective areas.
Apart from referring to case studies of Japan, Korea, etc, he also stated that as more numbers of women are enrolling for skill development courses, such a trend would help accelerate growth of state and nation's economy.
He also spoke about the present un employment status for Manipur and explained about the role of his company/institute in imparting skills to the young generations of the state.
Among other speakers, IEI Manipur former secretary N Joykumar Singh highlighted the importance of skills in surviving the modern world while chairman Th Joykumar Singh deliberated on essence of celebrating "Engineers Day" as well as presented brief life story of Bharat Ratna Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya and how he achieved various positions in different organisations across India.
He also mentioned about the skills and technical knowledge that Sir Visvesvaraya applied in creating various wonderful masterpieces across India.
The chairman concluded the speech by mentioning that Engineers must be well acquainted on skills and knowledge to solve the ever-growing problems of the society like climate change, scarcity of energy, lack of clean water, proper drainage and flood, food shortage, etc.
IEI Manipur joint secretary Dr Thokchom Subhaschandra delivered vote of thanks of the programme which was hosted by IEI executive member Dr N Monika Chanu.
