Imphal, September 16 2021:
Denouncing the elected legislators from the hill districts of alleged sidelining the voices of hill people and their demands for passing the ADC Bill 2021, Joint Tribe Students' Association (JTSA) has demanded the legislators concerned to resign from their respective position on moral ground immediately as they have failed to live up to the expectation of the hill people.
Speaking to media persons at Daani Hotels and Resorts Private Limited, Thang meiband Maisnam Leikai on Thursday, JTSA joint secretary Jeanthui Panmei contended that the hill people have been eagerly waiting for the passage of Manipur (Hill Areas) Autonomous District Council Bill, 2021.They also expected that the Bill would be tabled in the recently concluded Manipur Legislative Assembly session.
Unfortunately, their hopes were shattered as the proposed legislation was not tabled, he bemoaned while asserting that as the legislators elected from the hill districts sidelined the voices of the people and did not take their responsibility seriously they should resign on moral ground instantly.
Making it clear that the notification issued by the government for recruitment of several posts in ADC despite dissolution of the councils is against the wishes of the hill people, Jeanthui said that JTSU too opposes the notification as it is meaningless to conduct the recruitment for several posts in ADC without its elected leaders.
With regard to developmental activities taken up in hill areas, Jeanthui lauded the government's 'Go to Hills' programme saying such events help detect the inadequacies in the hill areas.
However, many developmental projects taken up in the hill areas could not be completed and the failure of releasing funds has derailed the developmental works, he contended.
Recounting that CM N Biren inaugurated water supply project worth Rs 45 crore during his visit to Tamenglong district last year, he informed that the said project is yet to be completed and there are various reports of leakage in the water reservoir.
He urged the chief minister to personally monitor and supervise the project so as to complete it by controlling its quality.
Drawing attention of CM Biren on construction work of the Khongsang-Tamenglong road, Jeanthui Panmei also said that JTSA has been monitoring the construction work and there are no signs of the government department concerned and agencies maintaining quality of the project.
JTSA is a conglomerate of four student organisations namely All Inpui Students' Union (AISU), Liangmei Naga Katimai Ruangdi (LNKR), Rongmei Naga Students' Organisation Manipur (RNSOM) and Zeme Students' Organisation Manipur (ZSOM) .
