Imphal, December 02 2013 :
Despite being the birthplace of great patriot Thangal General and having been associated with the past glories of the State right from the reign of King Charairongba, the Thangal Surung Village under Saikul Assembly Constituency in Senapati district is now reeling under the apathy of State Government.
Talking to Hueiyen Lanpao, the Chieftain of Thangal Surung Village Langkham Kadoikimi Thangal lamented the indifferent attitude of the Government towards the developmental needs of the village and pointed out that there is no proper road linking the village with other parts of the State
till date.
Moreover, the basic amenities for water and power are far from the reach of the villagers.
The Village has been totally backward with no proper implementation of PDS, MGNREGS and other schemes of the Government, he lamented.
He further said that the villagers of Thangal Surung still feel proud to be part of the great history of Manipur.
There is a historical fact of King Pamheiba being raised by the Chieftain of Thangal Surung after his father King Charairongba discarded him for fear of patricide.
Moreover, the great son of Manipur Thangal General was born in the village.
He was an exceptional warrior who sacrificed his life at the gallows for the sake of motherland.
The village has been associated with the past glories of the State and this has remained as an undeniable fact.
In spite of great historical importance of the village, the State Government has totally neglected Thangal Surung in utter disregard of the great history of Manipur.
The cave from where the name of this village derived is also an important religious place of the State, Langkham added.
The Chieftain further appealed to the authorities concerned to acknowledge the significance of Thangal Surung in the history of Manipur and develop the village at least as a tribute to the great sons of the soil who were born in the village.
