Imphal, April 01 2009:
Leave aside the result of the forthcoming general election, the Independent candidate in the Inner Manipur Parliamentary Constituency, Adbul Rahman is surely upbeat with the large crowds gathered at his election campaign rallies.
Unexpectedly large number of people, most of them Meetei Muslims, turned up at the flag hoisting ceremony of A Rahman, at his residence located at Khurai Thangjam Khunou in Imphal East district today.
Addressing the large gathering, the retired IG, Manipur Police said that the promise made by Th Chaoba that he would remove the AFSPA 1958 from Manipur, if he is elected, and if he fails to do so, he will resign from being MP, is a false promise.
When he was Union Minister during the NDA's rule at the Centre, AFSPA was in force in Manipur.
But he did not remove it then, Rahman said.
He further said that the alleged statement of Alim Ullama that the Muslims will vote for Dr Nara was the violation of election model code of conduct.
All the Muslim voters are not under Alim Ullama.
He does not have the right to speak for the whole Muslim community at the time of election.
