Commemorating the day the headmen and leaders of Zeliangrong Union, (ZU) in 1934, performed a customary pledge and oath (Chuk-sumei) for peace and unity, to put an end to the century old social evils of inter village feuds, and to foster harmonious relations with other tribes and communities, the Zeliangrong Union (ANM) has celebrated the Platinum Jubilee of Zeliangrong Solidarity Day with great pomp and gay at the Mini Stadium of Tamenglong Head Quarters on April 1 last, said a statement of ZU (ANM) issued by its secretary K Poushinglung.
The Platinum Jubilee was celebrated under the theme of "Unity is Strength".
Ex MLA and Ex President of the Union, D Athuibou, grand old man of Zeliangrong, R Tele and James Rungshung graced the function as chief guest, guest of honor and president respectively.
Speaking on the occasion, the chief guest highlighted the significance of the customary pledge and oath which binds the descendants of Makuilongdi.
"It is a binding that no one dares to break" He said.
The Zeliangrong people withstand all those forces which tried to destroy the unity and solidarity by slicing out the compact and contiguous area of Zeliangrong into pieces and placed in the states of Assam, Manipur and Nagaland by the successive government of British and the independent India.
The piece of Zeliangrong land in Manipur was named as North West Sub Division which is later known as Tamenglong District.
The ZU statement said that such commemoration will re-affirm their commitment for peace, unity and solidarity among its people and other communities.
Lighting of candle inside the Zeliangrong map, Zeliangrong cultural dances and cultural songs were the special attraction of the celebration.
The programme concluded with a benediction prayer by Retired Field Director of ZBC, Rev.Mp.
